Orbiter, lander and rover architecture around the Moon.
Chandrayaanโ2 was designed as a threeโpart mission: an orbiter, a lander named Vikram, and a rover named Pragyan. The orbiter continues to function and send data, even though the 2019 landing attempt did not succeed.
The Vikram lander lost contact during final descent. ISRO later used this data to refine software, sensors and procedures for Chandrayaanโ3.
The orbiter carries instruments to study the Moonโs topography, exosphere, waterโice distribution and elemental composition. With a planned multiโyear life, it continues to support future missions.
